United Negro College Fund Empower Me Tour 2011-2012 Uses Social Media To Change the Destiny of Future Minority Workforce
2011-2012 UNCF Empower Me Tour

Reports of high rates of death, incarceration, unemployment, and low college graduation rates among minority youth raise serious concerns for minority families, the nation’s economy, and our future workforce.  In 2011, 16.7% of Blacks are unemployed.

2011-2012 UNCF Empower Me Tour is trying to meet the demands of preparing our workforce for global competition in the face of unrelenting unemployment, our nation’s economy can no longer accept such dire statistics from minority youth.  The UNCF (United Negro College Fund) Empower Me Tour, led by Monica McCluney, National Director of Strategic Alliances and Corporate Partnerships, and Wells Fargo. lead sponsor have taken deliberate steps by hosting a nine-city Empower Me tour to help reduce these chilling statistics.  United Negro College Fund, the nation’s largest and most effective minority education organization in the US, is hosting the tour to bring together minority middle school, high school, and college students to share in an all-day, one-of-a-kind experience where students are motivated, encouraged and inspired to take control of their future.  The tour promotes the importance of academic preparation and financial education, and uses some of Hollywood’s most recognized personalities and corporate leaders to engage its students.

Open Government TV has teamed with M80 to introduce a social media strategy designed to engage youth, parents, and stakeholders to work in collaboration with industry and government to expose the youth to social content online. The social media and the content online will offer a set of tools to help students learn and aspire for advancement, encourage parents to be further engaged, and help institutional stakeholders to share information that better ensures that our  teaching centers educate young people who realize their truest academic potentials.

M80 Services, Inc. headquartered in Los Angeles, California, with offices in many of the nine cities of the Empower Me Tour, creates online marketing campaigns for entertainment properties and consumer brands. M80 offers online, word of mouth, grassroots community empowerment, viral marketing, social media marketing, and online publicity and promotions services. A subsidiary of Group M, M80 is a media and advertising giant since June 2006, serving music, film, home entertainment, and consumer lifestyle companies. The social media firm’s clients include Warner Brothers, Ford, Verizon, Proctor & Gamble.

Open Government TV founder Keith Moore says of the social media platform to be built by M80; “We believe the Empower Me Tour social media program will become an invaluable tool for delivering inspiring content to the targeted youth. In addition to the exposure from the tour events, the social media program should improve the number of minority youth who enter college, complete college, and successfully enter into satisfying careers”.  OGTV (Open Government TV), is an organization committed to providing online video information to engage, educate, and empower organization’s seeking to create jobs, and contribute to restoring the nation’s economy.
